What was the purpose of the pillar of cloud in tess of the d'urbervilles?

I can't remember that exact connection. It is almost 30 years since I read Tess. The novel was made into a movie in the early 80's, and it does quite a good job with the story.

White Cloud minnows are very hearty fish and one of the few small colorful species that do very well in cold water. They are native to high mountain streams in China, so they actually prefer the colder temperatures. They only get to be about 1.5 inches in length at maturity, so using the 1 inch per gallon rule, you can probably safely get away with 14 or so.
As far as the heartiest tetra, most of them are a bit delicate and require specific water acidity and temperature, but the glowlight tetra is fairly adaptable and commonly available. Others you might try include some of the deeper-bodied characins like black phantoms, bleeding hearts, lemons, red serpaes, etc.What is the hardiest tetra? They dont need a heater and prefer water around room temperature 18-22C. They can survive much lower temps, down to 5C and are OK up to about 25C.
They are a great fish for beginners and smaller tanks.

Just get a little cup and scoop the fish out of the water and scoop up his tank water at the same time. He can just sit in that cup while you clean the tank.
Then you can just rinse out the fish bowl and gravel, plants, etc. with just plain water. Don't leave too much water in the any of it though because bettas don't do too well with tap water. Then put everything back into the bowl and fill it to the proper level with bottled water. It's much better because tap water contains chlorine that can kill the betta. I'm sure you have some at your house from your daughter cleaning the tank. If not, buy some. The pH levels should be between 6.8 and 7.4 of the bottled water you are using. You can buy pH tests when you buy the bottled water. And its important to not switch bottled water types because the change could kill them.
Then just scoop the fish back into the tank.
Since the old tank water is cloudy, I wouldn't pour him back in but rather use a spoon or net to get him back into the bowl.
Its pretty simple and will be greatly appreciated by the betta!

DO NOT remove the fish from the tank when you change the water. It will just stress him out more.
How long has the tank been set up? If it's been set up for less than a month, then you're experiencing a bacterial bloom. The bacteria aren't harmful. They're floating in the tank until they can find somewhere to reside.
If the tank has been set up for more than a month, then you probably removed some of the beneficial bacteria by cleaning the whole tank or throwing away some of the filter media.

Now that I am older, it happens less often and it usually derives from being overwhelmed (my job is too big for me). Or not enough sex (I had to throw something funny in here!). Many times I have sunk into depression.
And what helps? Sunlight - I avoid poorly-lit, depressing (for me) environments at work or home. People - I realize that I must "show up" for work or play, rather than hide at home and sink deeper. Exercise - a good run helps a hell of a lot. So does healthy food. Puppies - who cannot smile with an armful of puppy?

Liquor will help you forget about the dark cloud, but it won't go away.

I'm looking specifically for an explanation of condensation nuclei. Do the water molecules bond with it and each other? Or do they just form around it and bond to each other with their hydrogen bonds. And do they freeze as soon as they gather? If so, are they stuck hydrogen bonded to each other and/or the condensation nucleus? And, how big is the condensation nucleus compared tot he water molecules? Any other details or things I should know? So you know, I'm trying to write a story from the perspective of a water molecule, starting from when the cloud forms to when it rains, so please try to explain everything on a molecular or atomic level. Water needs to give away thermal energy when going from gas to liquid (condense) and liquid to solid (freeze). Likewise, it must take thermal energy when going from solid to liquid (melt) and liquid to gas (evaporate). The latter is the reason the evaporation of our sweat cools down our skin.
The problem is that when water condenses as it cools down by the adiabatic effect of a lesser pressure aloft, it needs something with a mass to transfer that thermal energy. That is why e.g. cloud seeding with silver oxide is done to precipitate condensation and, ultimately, rain.
This is also why we see dew on about anything with a mass, when the temperature falls under the dew point, usually early in the morning.
The same applies to water under freezing point. When in tiny droplets, it becomes under-cooled water that only freezes when meeting e.g. the leading edge of the wing of my aircraft; hence the danger of "freezing fog."
But the most interesting point is that the tiny droplets that form a cloud has to cool down to form larger droplets, otherwise they simply evaporate with time. It is only when the air is still warmer than the surrounding and rises, that rain can form. Hence, all rain starts first upward. And in some case, it rises all the way to the top of the troposphere, what we call, the tropopause, and freezes into pellets of ice. What about the strange cloud over Moscow?
People on the web have been saying that this is a lenticular cloud. Others have been dismissing it as an optical illusion. I'm just wondering, because I honestly do not know, what people overall think it was. I looked up images of lenticular clouds on google and none of them look like the cloud over moscow. They are considered cold water.. they can't survive quite down to freezing, but can handle close to it for a while. They do just fine at room temperature, and even up into the low end tropical range. As long as you don't live in an igloo, they wont need a heater.
They have an adult size of a little over 1", so they are OK in a smallish tank. 10gal is ideal, and I have kept (AND bred) them in a 5gal. I have some in a 20gal now, hopefully they will breed because it's looking a bit empty right now.
She may be confusing them for some other fish, as White Clouds are quite unusual in being cold-water AND small.

When volcanoes erupt, the cloud will be all over the atmosphere to upto an altitude of several thousands of metres. Any foreign particles which enters the intakes can possibly cause engine failures. They'll tear the engine down. Once the engines are shut down, you'll lose all the thrust. You'll have to declare "mayday" and get the nearest possible landing site within gliding distance. Humans have always been tribal. There is "us" and there is "them". As the human race has grown in numbers to the point where other people are not an asset but a liability, the context of "us" has shrunk, down to the family unit in some cases, leaving out everyone else as "them". Such a cannibalistic collection of self-serving entities cannot be thought of as the most ideal of societies, but it is what human society has become in many places.
We have become our own natural pressure. If someone does not thrive in our society, it is not because they didn't run fast enough to catch an animal, or think to look under a log for grubs, it's because they failed to navigate the social system they found themselves in.
So now you are looking at "survival of the fittest" of ideologies themselves. This is quite interesting. If history teaches us anything, it is that "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind." That is, the most self-centered ideologies may lead to quick rises in power, empires, etc., but these are not as long lived as their altruistic counterparts. Basically, if your ideology is based on the exploitation of others, what happens when you're the only ones left with no one left to exploit? The civilization implodes.
So the question is whether we will ultimately have a global society of all "us" and no them, or will we, faction by faction, battle it out until the factions themselves are again small enough for the world to support?

Evolution is a fact, but that highly evolved brain is far more powerful than for mere survival and perpetuation of the species. It enables us to transcend our animal drives and discover in ourselves and others stunning capacity for love and putting the welfare of all humanity at the top and creating a world that cherishes the development of human capacity and care for the planet. That powerful brain enables us to create societies and institutions for bringing out and nurturing all the latent potentialities of every human on the planet. We are amazing, stunning beings. The survival of the fittest does introduce competition between competing groups of people, wars are the most destructive form and sporting events probably the least.

I fly a home-built tiny motor-glider and these lenticular clouds that we see often, here in Norway, are very nice and yes, they give an enormous lift although I have never tried them myself. One thing that must be said: They are high clouds and I fly without an oxygen bottle because my license class forbid me to fly over 10,000 ft. (Norwegian Ultralight class).
Anyway, I have no idea how you can see that over Florida. I have lived 30 years in Norway but I was born and grew up in Belgium a very flat country and I had never seen those clouds there.
If anything, they simply witness that a) there is much wind aloft b) the wind has passed over some mountains or high terrain and c) there is some humidity in the air.

So I've been looking into the Orlando area because Orlando has always been a cool place to me. I have a friend who lives in Saint Cloud and he seems like he likes it there. I'm not planning on moving there or anything because I'm only 15 and live 3 hours away from Orlando. So if anyone has any experience in that area please tell me what it's like. But, other documents should not be stored in the cloud. If you are going to do that, password protect your documents. This is VERY easy to do in Adobe. Interestingly enough, no State Bar Association has rules addressing this problem at the moment. I am not saying you aren't sad and that bad things aren't happening to you. What I am saying is that you-the person you are on the inside-is the one who needs to be made whole again.
Many things can happen or not happen to us that bring you to where you are today. Have you heard sayings like....."That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger"? Well, if I told you the horrible things that happened to me and didn't happen for me as a child they would both anger you and make you cry. But I am a solid adult now and fight my black clouds off easily. How? perspective and strength. When you learn to fortify the woman you are inside the black clouds that come at you are more easily pushed aside.
I think this story is the best way to explain it.
There is air conditioning blowing in all of the places we go now. When we step inside from the oppressing heat of the day we feel the breeze of cool air rush towards us and it is very refreshing we welcome the change. But weaken the ability to move quickly through the temp changes by soaking us with water and the step into the same temp from the same outdoor temp and it is too much to bear. We feel assaulted, and painfully shiver, hugging ourselves to keep warm. Meanwhile everyone around you is welcoming the temp change and go about their business happily, but your body ( feelings) hurt, the change is so unwelcome that you feel as if you are being assaulted.
So you see sweetie, you need to work on fortifying that thing in you that will make you stronger for the changes to come, because they will continue to come, that's life.
How do you strengthen yourself? You think positive, only positive, and you hit the library, (don't spend money on books!) and find books that will make you look inward to see what was broken, who broke it and how to fix it and move on.
I was VERY broken, my pain and suffering at the verbal, mental and sexual abuse didn't go away when the abuse was over. I continued to abuse myself. Why? I don't know why we do it, but I sense in you that someone has broken you as well in some way and because of it you continue to make the choices that don't bring you the happiness you deserve . And if I am right, you unknowingly, continue to keep yourself wet and fragile simply because you haven't found the tools to turn off the pain yourself.
So let me say this...You are beautiful on the outside by your inside is bleeding with ugly wounds. Take the time to mend that broken little girl and you'lll never shiver again, no matter what comes at you.

The mind is the only thing that holds us back, we make our own dark clouds and carry them around with us to darken the day. Pray with real intent. Listen for as long as you pray and do what you then feel impressed to do. Also do simple, fun things that you enjoy and start noticing everything around you.
