Does anyone know if they make a tablet for pool water that forms a color cloud when urine is present?

I have heard that they make a tablet/liquid that goes in the pool water and then whenever there is urine present it forms a cloud in the vicinity as well as follows the person responsible. I was told the most common color of the cloud is red, but I will accept any color. Does anyone know what this is called and where I could buy the product?Does anyone know if they make a tablet for pool water that forms a color cloud when urine is present?
I know that they don't.
I don't think such a product exists. It would be pretty hard to do considering both sweat and urine contain similar chemicals. Also something like this would have to be measuring PH levels of the pool. Probably you could get a PH meter for the pool but nothing so obvious as a red cloud.Does anyone know if they make a tablet for pool water that forms a color cloud when urine is present?
I've heard this too, but the color was purple. I've checked at several pool supply houses and they just laugh. You could try America's Best pool supply and Leslies. E-mail me if you find it because I want some, too!
Nitrate detection is very expensive chemical wise...relax...the small amount of urine is not going to kill anything. Get over it, we have all been exposed to considerably worse stuff. If there are kids in the pool, trust that there is pee in the pool...big dealDoes anyone know if they make a tablet for pool water that forms a color cloud when urine is present?
I would think you could buy it at any pool supply store, but it may not work as you hope. I've heard stories about attempts to use that chemical in public pools in big cities. Authorities thought, as did the inventors, that urinaters would be mortified at the colour forming around them in the pool. BUT....It turns out kids thought it was COOL!!!! so they would drink water and soda by the barrel and then go in the pool and pee their brains out, so to speak, in an attempt to see how dark they could colour the water.
Chlorine is a form of bleach and kills bacteria. Urine is steryl anyway. And if you have athletes foot, it will cure it.
My aunt put it in her pool, and I beleive she got it at the pool supply store.

Questions about Traveling to Costa Rica to see Cloud Forest.?

I'm thinking of planning a vacation to see Cloud Forest in Costa Rica, but I have some questions:

(1) What is the best airport to get off in Costa Rica? Also, if you have the airport code, that would be great.

(2) Once I get off, is there any taxi or shuttle service that will take me there? If not and I have to rent a car, how long (or how far) of a drive is it to Cloud Forest?

(3) Any recommendations as to a really good tour company?

Thanks.Questions about Traveling to Costa Rica to see Cloud Forest.?
Hi, I agree with Sue about the airport, it will be much easier for you to land in Juan Santa Maria international airport in San Jose.

About transportation, there is a shuttle company called Interbus which provides a good service or you can hire private drivers. Like Sue said, it is kind of a challenge to drive here, much more when it's your first time in the country. The ride to Monteverde takes between 4 to 5 hours.

The cloud forest in Monteverde is a really nice area, but you don't have a lot to do once you get there. If you are going to stay one week in Costa Rica I would recommend two or three days in the mountains and consider visiting the National park of Manuel Antonio and its wonderful beaches.

If you have any other about Manuel Antonio area you can contact me through our website.

There are many areas in Costa Rica that have cloud forests but the most famous is Monteverde. So I will talk about this. The airport doesn't really make a difference the cost of a taxi is about the same ($150 two years ago). So either SJO or LIB will work for you. It is about 4 hours to Monteverde from there. You really don't need a tour company. Get on line. You can get a good guide from your hotel or at the cloud forest reserve. It could be a little cheaper to rent a car but driving at night is not recommended.Questions about Traveling to Costa Rica to see Cloud Forest.?
1) I would say San Jose (It's SJO). There's another airport in Liberia, but it's kind of up north, mostly used by people who are going to stay at the beach areas in Guanacaste.

2) there may be a shuttle to your HOTEL. You'll need to search hotels. Regarding cloud forests, I think Braulio Carrillo is the one you might go to.

3) I don't have an idea on tour companies, sorry about that, but if you find one, I'd highly recommend it instead of driving. The driving is crazy there. Seriously, just you tube it..
Just a word of advice. Take a waterproof jacket, it can get chilly in the mountains and you will be in the clouds. If you are staying there overnight take something warm to sleep in. Not all of the hotels are heated. See the hummingbirds.

What is the maximum distance a 45,000 ft mushroom cloud would be visible from?

What is the maximum distance the top of a 45,000 ft tall mushroom cloud would be visible from on the ground, for instance, from the ocean? What is the maximum distance a 45,000 ft mushroom cloud would be visible from?
The line of sight of the observer is tangent to the surface of the earth. This line of sight is thus perpendicular to the radius of the earth drawn to the observer's position. Complete the right triangle with the top of the mushroom cloud and we have:

Leg 1 = r

Leg 2 = distance from observer to top of mushroom cloud

Hypotenuse = r + 45,000 ft.

Where r is the radius of the earth, about 20,925,525 ft. Using the Pythagorean theorem, the distance from observer to mushroom cloud is about 1,373,070 feet, or 260 miles. What is the maximum distance a 45,000 ft mushroom cloud would be visible from?
i think you couldn't see anything farther than 10 kilometers or 6 milesWhat is the maximum distance a 45,000 ft mushroom cloud would be visible from?
i am assuming you try to say the mushroom cloud of atomic explosion? should be the distance from the Goraud of explosion to the Maximo high it can go
You need to construct yourself a right triangle. Place yourself on a circle (say the circumference of the earth.) Let's assume you're in the middle of the ocean and your eyes are just above water. (If you want to get picky don't forget to adjust for your own height.) As you look out in a straight line to the horizon (we'll call that a tangent line) you can see the curvature of the earth. Assuming you can see forever in a straight line, anything you can see must rise up to at least the level of that tangent line. The max distance will be found when that thing just touches that tangent line. I'd Use 4000 miles for the radius of the earth (I'd also state that I was doing that on my homework) and call your hypotenuse 4000miles + 45,000 feet. One adjacent side would be 4000 miles + the distance to your eyes. (Probably pretty safe to round this down to 4000 miles.) Then just apply the Pythagorean theorem.

  • What is a good cloud service provider?

I need a good managed cloud provider to move all my documents and information off-site, I have been researching it and it looks like a good idea to save some alot of money and get rid of this server I have now. I do not want to do any of the managing on the server so if it can be managed that is a huge plus! Any help is really appreciated! Thanks. What is a good cloud service provider?
I've found a very good list of the major cloud service providers on a blog called Techno-Pulse with a lot of details as to platforms (important!) and even future cloud service providers to watch. Check the complete info out here:

    http://www.techno-pulse.com/2009/12/top-鈥?/a>

The major players in cloud computing at the moment are Amazon, Google, VMware, Rackspace, Salesforce.com, Microsoft, Joyent, IBM, NetSuite and 3Tera and some new cloud services to come up will be Enomaly, GoGrid, and AT%26amp;T.

We are likely to see a few changes and a lot of development in the sector of cloud computing, so it might be a good idea to look for the latest cross-platform information and other good offers to come up!What is a good cloud service provider?

What is a good cloud service provider?
I'm fairly new to this so hopefully I can help you out.

Well, first of all I was recently in the market looking for a managed cloud provider. I am not too good at the technical aspect of hosting so I was looking for a managed server (Also, I really just don't have the time or patience to deal with it.) But depending on the size of information I highly recommend the people I decided to stick with. FiveSlice does alot of small to medium sized cloud jobs, and it worked great for me. I looked at a few of their competitors and FiveSlice seemed to be very reasonably priced considering the ease they put in the whole process. They charged me 49$/month and even threw in OnApp (Which by the way will be a lifesaver.)

In short, FiveSlice made everything so simple but at the same time gave me so much control if I needed to change anything. Best of all there's only five options from you to choose from so it takes the difficulty in deciding what you need or don't. So if you're technically inclined, which I am by no means :\ You'll love the control they give you. But if you're not, then don't worry they will handle everything for you.
Amazon has 5 gbs of free storage. (assuming you have an account.)

Windows Live also has free storage called "SkyDrive" which is 25 gbs of free storage. This is what I'd recommend. Microsoft will keep your info safe. You do have to sign up for windows live though.

Why do Comets leave their home in the Oort Cloud or Kuiper Belt?

my daughter came home from school and is learning about comets in science and this is on her homework Why do Comets leave their home in the Oort Cloud or Kuiper Belt? but i cant answer it for her. any ideas what the answer is?Why do Comets leave their home in the Oort Cloud or Kuiper Belt?
A comet will spend billions of years in the Kuiper Belt or Oort Cloud. Sometimes two comets will come very close to each other, or even crash into one another. When this happens the comets change directions. Sometimes their new path will bring them into the Inner Solar System.

This is when a comet begins to shine. Up until now the comet has been among millions of others exactly the same, but as they approach the warmer Inner Solar System they begin to melt leaving behind magnificent tails.

Unfortunately, comets don't live very long once they enter the warmer part of the Solar System. Just like a snowman melts in the summer, comets melt in the Inner Solar System. Although it is the most glorious part of their lives, traveling through the Inner Solar System eventually kills them. After several thousand years they melt down to a little bit of ice and dust, not nearly enough to leave a tail. Some even melt away completely. Why do Comets leave their home in the Oort Cloud or Kuiper Belt?
Deflected by a gravitational field, possibly from a nearby (relatively) star or from perturbations in the motion of another incipient comet.

How can you tell if you are seeing a cumulonimbus cloud, or nibostratus clouds?

it is raining here, and i don't know how to tell if what i'm looking at it a cumulonimbus or nimbostratus cloud. it was hailing a couple minutes ago if that helps. i was just wondering what (if any) are the tell-tale signs of either cloud. what things to look for when identifying the type of cloud, and etc. thank you so much. How can you tell if you are seeing a cumulonimbus cloud, or nibostratus clouds?
If there is hail present, then it is a cumulonimbus as these clouds have a strong updraft that helps create hail. If there was a way to get out from under the actual cloud, you would be able to see the towering cloud and it's features.

  • What effect will the Iceland Vocanic Dust cloud have on the US weather?

As the ash cloud circumnavigates the Earth, is there anybody out there who can scientifically predict what effect it will have on our summer weather in the U.S. and for the rest of this year, please? What effect will the Iceland Vocanic Dust cloud have on the US weather?
It all depends on what happens. The Ejyafjallaj枚kulll eruption has put a lot of ashes in the sky because it is under a glacier and once the lava mixes with the ice, it creates a steam that rises very high in the sky an drifts long distances, taken by the jet streams.

Right now, the Ejyafjallaj枚kull has melted much of its glacier and, perhaps, we won't see much more high level ashes. As the ice is gone, the volcano works like any other volcano in e.g. Indonesia or Hawaii; much lava is coming out but not so much ash is reaching high up in the atmospher because it doesn't produce steam.

But the other volcano, called Katla, only 2 km from Eyjafjallaj枚kull, is much bigger with a huge glacier on the top. It is due to erupt any time now and that one could cause a lot of problems for the entire northern hemisphere. The worst-case scenario even predicts an breakdown of all satellite communications. It is even said that it was the Katla eruption in 1783 that caused the famine that lead to the French revolution in 1789.What effect will the Iceland Vocanic Dust cloud have on the US weather?
There won't be a huge difference but there will be one. The last large volcanic eruption (Mt St Hellens in 1980) caused the Earth to be about 1 degree (F) cooler. This eruption is about the size of that one.

I can only assume it will be just the same. What effect will the Iceland Vocanic Dust cloud have on the US weather?
particles will block the sun and possibly make our weather cooler
cooler summer and more rain days

Based on these observations what can you say about the flying conditions at cloud level?

You are standing next to your airplane preparing for a night flight. It is overcast and the visibility is very good. Rain starts abruptly. You notice the droplets are quite large. The rain stops after a minute or so. What can youo say about flying conditions at cloud level?Based on these observations what can you say about the flying conditions at cloud level?
expect embedded CB clouds. check out for the ligthning illuminated clouds on the horizon.

i suggest NOT flying in those conditions unless you are equipped with weather radar and/or effective ground radar support capable of vetoring you out of the storms. however, the embedded CB may not be visible on the radar, if the general saturation/precipitation from clouds is strong enough.

the sudden shower with large drops is the result of overhead cumuliform cloud in developing stage.Based on these observations what can you say about the flying conditions at cloud level?
Sounds like some convective stuff is on the way. I wouldn't go. Or I'd at least call FSS and check.

What type of companies really need cloud computing?

cloud computing is the wave of the future but who really benefits from its use? Is it any startup that uses servers or is it more seasoned and sophisticated companies with major storage requirements? What type of companies really need cloud computing?
The downside of cloud computing is that if you lose your internet connection (lightning strike, unpaid bill, ISP server glitch, etc) you cannot access any of your data! What type of companies really need cloud computing?
If you're talking about hosting your website, or web application in the cloud, then the advantage is that people from around the world can get a faster connection. Problem is, the databases for the cloud are not that powerful and you'll probably have to still use a standard database. I would rather just use a content delivery network for large images or data if I really needed it. If you're a startup you probably don't need to use the cloud.

If you want to use it to run programs like MS office, I guess that can be helpful. They have Office live, like google docs so you can store your documents on the web. I'm not sure if you consider that on the cloud or not.

How do you decode the "cloud" group in a TTBB report?

I need to work with some radiosonde data, and one of the things that I need to decode is the "cloud group" 41414 in some TTBB reports. Strangely, I see that sometimes the report says "41414 80000", which seems to indicate "overcast, no clouds at low levels, no clouds at mid levels and no clouds at high levels". I did some checking, and this report isn't particularly rare. Does anyone know what such a code means? How do you decode the "cloud" group in a TTBB report?
Updated answer to make a correction

The 8000 code used in the upper air sounding indicates that the following data is a regional code. It does not have to follow the cloud group, but usually as the last group of the existing figure group in that report. It is used when a special code is needed to give information that is important for that area, but can not be communicated using any of the standard international code.

For more information, click on this link to download the WMO international code guide book. It is large pdf file, so it may take a little time to download. Then do a search for "8000" code and you will get the information.

    http://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/www/WMOCod鈥?/a>

So in order to find out what this means, you will need to find out the local meaning the groups following this "8000" indicator group. Hope this helps.

What are the weather conditions the day after we have moderate temperatures, high cloud cover, and rain?

Imagine: The morning is sunny with moderate temperatures. In early afternoon, a thin high cloud cover begins to move in. In late afternoon, cloud cover has thickened and appears to be lower. In late evening, a light gentle rain occurs. What will the temperature be tomorrow, and why? What are the weather conditions the day after we have moderate temperatures, high cloud cover, and rain?
You are describing the typical advance of a warm front. The day after, the temperature will be mild, unless the cold front has already come. The average speed of frontal low is 20 to 25 knots. At that rate, the cold front should come sometimes, the day after.

But the temperature it will be the day after depends very much of the location and the time of the year.

If it is sunny during the summer, the heat of the day overcome the lost of heat at night. In the winter, it is the inverse. But it also depends on your latitude. Where I live, quite north at latitude 60, the 'break-even' is about the equinox. But if you go far enough south, it only gets warmer for each sunny day. It all depends.

When I live (near Oslo, Norway) at this time of the year, the warm sector of a low pressure always give milder temperature. But not in the middle of the summer!

So, it is very difficult to tell your temperature the day after. It all depends on where you live.

Is there a difference in what you hear from the ground due to cloud over and denseness of cloud?

Eg. When a plane goes over do you hear a different level of sound depending on the denseness of the cloud. Is there a difference in what you hear from the ground due to cloud over and denseness of cloud?
Yes you do. In cloudless air, sound attenuation increases with relative humidity up to a peak at 17% (1 kHz, 0 C, SLP) and then decreases as RH increases to 100%. In clouds, however, attenuation is greater than in cloud-free air. See the refs.

People are work were saying oh cloud computing is so cool and this and that but what is it exactly?

The ability to do things online instead of the need of installing software and being able to access data from anywhere? In a nutshell what exactly is cloud computing?
Its a brand new tech based off decades old software. It sort of goes back to the idea of having a mainframe.

Computers will be simple little machines, they will have no hard drives or anything of the sort, just the processor, and input devices. When you turn it on, you will log into the cloud. This is a big computer somewhere in the country. This is where the OS and all your files are stored. This method makes computers much cheaper, and you can go to any computer in the world and get your files. It follows you wherever you go and all computers will be the same. Most likely Macs since Apple seems to be the only real developer of cloud servers at the moment. In a nutshell what exactly is cloud computing?
Cloud computing provides all of the tools a business requires on a computer without actually having to acquire and maintain the tools at the business. Employees possess the basic necessities such as a computer, its keyboard, and tower, but a business鈥檚 server and its network are kept off site and maintained at a remote location. The advantage helps them to cut back the expense of hiring an IT department when the service can be 鈥榬ented鈥?from another location. Businesses can purchase necessary software through the cloud, and would only be billed for what they use. Business will not be required to be accomplished strictly at a facility and can be conducted the same, anywhere where there is a computer with internet access. In a nutshell what exactly is cloud computing?
Basically, yes. Anytime you need something, instead of running the program off of your computer, you run it off of a computer somewhere out on the Net. Anything you do will be saved multiple times across multiple computers so that even if one goes down, you can still get your stuff and not even notice that anything's wrong.

The temp. is about 4 degree's kelven wich is almost absolute zero. this site should give you more info.
The temperature is almost absolute zero (as cold as you can be). The measurements tend to be about 4"K, but obviously that involves a lot of guess work.

We simply have no accurate way of sizing objects that far out. Dark matter, at that distance, would be measured by gravitation perturbation of inner planets - so we could have hundreds of Mars sized objects scattered around, having a more-or-less equal effect on inner planets.

I don't know where to start since a quick google would yield thousands of results. What certifications should I get when I'm to start a career in cloud computing consulting?
My first stop would be wikipedia or google for a quick reference. I actually had a similar question not even 5 days ago, but I couldn't find the answer. If it's possible, try getting help from someone with more knowledge/experience/expertise, like a professional if it's possible. This can be pretty important.

I saw a forum with this online, but I didn't have time to read it all. Try checking it out. I want to help out more, but I'm not 100% sure about the answer. Sorry I'm not much help. I hope you found your answer! Good luck! JS

What is actually happening when you see two lines of cloud emitting from the engines of an airliner ?

Sometimes when you look up and see the airliner fly pass on a clear blue sky...a trail of two white cloud follows the airliner. What is actually happening? Is it humidity in the air or is the pilot testing the air density? What is actually happening when you see two lines of cloud emitting from the engines of an airliner ?
When conditions are right (temp. humidity, etc.) moisture in the exhaust from the engines condenses, just like water condenses to form clouds. These are called contrails. If you notice they stay around for awhile, just like a cloud, until the wind breaks them upWhat is actually happening when you see two lines of cloud emitting from the engines of an airliner ?

What is the highest dose of valium thats safe to take that will put me on cloud nine?

What is the highest dose of valium thats safe to take that will put me on cloud nine

    while having dental work done?

I was prescribed 2mg tablets and I tested 1 tab the other night. Slept well and a tad high but I think I maybe need more than 2mg because I didn't feel all that floaty.

Is it safe to take about 3 or 4 tabs, and will that do the job? What is the highest dose of valium thats safe to take that will put me on cloud nine?
You may want to consider the effect on your driving if you're going to be driving back and forth from the dentist. Otherwise, take whatever dose you choose about 2 hours before the procedure, and you will do better than taking it later, because Valium is better at preventing anxiety than at making it go away after it starts.

It's hard to say what dose will work for you. You have a fear of dentists, I take it, and it depends on how strong that fear/phobia is, if I'm reading correctly that you have it. The 2 mg that makes you sleepy may not entirely get rid of your worries about dental work.

I've used Valium for a fear of flying. Ordinarily, 2 mg would be quite relaxing. To get me on a plane, it takes 20 mg. If you're not taking any other medication or drug or drinking grapefruit juice, then yes, 6 or 8 mg of Valium ought to be safe. 15 mg/day is a common prescription and 40 mg/day is the maximum amount recommended in the PDR. Personally, it took a bunch of plane flights to gradually go from 5 to 10 to 15 to 20 mg to actually see what made the white knuckles go away. No one can predict what will "do the job", and if you're not scared of dentists, you don't need to be "on cloud nine".

But I would not recommend taking anything other than what your doctor prescribed, unless your doctor OK's it - why not ask him/her? My doctor says, much like the poster above, to take a moderate dose of Valium for a week or so before a flight to have some in my system, then to take a larger dose to fly.
Vallium is more of an anti-anxiety med than a pain killer. So the high you're trying to obtain might not be the one you're expecting. However, the amount you can safely take is going depend on your body's chemistry. You could probably take 3 but your dentist might notice if you're drooling or can't keep your head up. If you're insistant on taking more than prescribed, work up to it by taking half a pill more each day. This has worked for many but I can't promise that it'll work for you. Everyone's body works differently so be careful. Also be careful because vallium is highly addictive. What is the highest dose of valium thats safe to take that will put me on cloud nine?
Valium is not that kind of drug..it's relaxing your muscles

the more you take the quicker you're gonna wanna go to sleep.

just take the recommended dose and relax and enjoy.

Dentists usually prescribe Percaset or some other pain reliever.

the pain relievers will work better for what you're looking for.
Take as prescribed or you run the risk of causing your heart to...umm...stop.What is the highest dose of valium thats safe to take that will put me on cloud nine?

  • What is cloud antivirus and how does it work?

For example Trend Micro uses cloud technology. Do my files get sent to the server or does the server scan my computer for viruses? What is cloud antivirus and how does it work?
Farkowar, you sound like a monk on top of a mountain. Ohhmmmm..

Cloud antivirus works by scanning a file with many different pieces of anti-virus software. VirusTotal ( http://www.virustotal.com ) is a good example of this. TrendMicro just does the uploading for you, and powerful servers scan it and return the results. What is cloud antivirus and how does it work?
Unlike traditional antivirus software, cloud antivirus refers to the type of antivirus that runs on the cloud(remote server). Cloud Antivirus will scan all your files through the internet and run the tests on their own server, in this way it won鈥檛 disrupt any of your computer activity nor will it slow down your computer.

Another benefit of cloud antivirus is that instead of having to update traditional antivirus software routinely, it automatically updates the virus definitions in the cloud and then scans your files to see if it is infected with any of the new virus. It saves the headache of having to manage the antivirus software daily. What is cloud antivirus and how does it work?
The cloud is impenetrable, because it's just like air.

Cloud virus protection clouds your computer in protection from viruses.

The soft, warm billowing air of cloud virus protection will caress your computer in the most protective fashion.

The server scans your computer for viruses from afar.

What is the magnetic field strength inside the gas cloud?

Radio astronomers detect electromagnetic radiation at 44.0 MHz from an interstellar gas cloud. They suspect this radiation is emitted by electrons spiraling in a magnetic field.

What is the magnetic field strength inside the gas cloud? What is the magnetic field strength inside the gas cloud?
It varies a lot, since the thermodynamic conditions inside clouds vary. Generally the magnetic field pressure is in approximate equipartition with other pressures.

Generally around 3 to 10 microgauss would be typical.

I think what they may be asking here is: what magnetic field strength results in a synchrotron frequency of 44 MHz. But there's not enough information --- you'd need to know the electron energy perpendicular to the field lines as well.

What is the change in an electron's electric potential energy when the electron moves from ground to cloud?

During a particular thunderstorm, the electric potential difference between a cloud and the ground is Vcloud - Vground = 3.70 108 V, with the cloud being at the higher potential. What is the change in an electron's electric potential energy when the electron moves from the ground to the cloud?____JWhat is the change in an electron's electric potential energy when the electron moves from ground to cloud?
    The change in PE is:

    = -1.6e-19 * 3.7e8

    = -1.6*3.7*e-11

    = -5.92e-11 (J)

I'm assuming that lately, people have started using the word cloud....well....I guess in a sense it is a virtual cloud....hehehe

What is the difference between the Scattered Disk and th Oort Cloud?

What is the difference between the Scattered Disk and the Oort Cloud. Is there a clear boundary between the two? What is the difference between the Scattered Disk and th Oort Cloud?
The Oort Cloud is an immense spherical cloud of comets, asteroids and meteors, surrounding our Solar System. Extending about 30 trillion kilometers (18 trillion miles) from the Sun the Oort cloud is believed to be the source of many comets.

Models by Julio 脕ngel Fern谩ndez (See wikipedia links below) suggest that the scattered disc, which is the main source for periodic comets in the Solar System, might also be the primary source for Oort cloud objects. According to the models, about half of the objects scattered travel outward towards the Oort cloud, while a quarter are shifted inward to Jupiter's orbit, and a quarter are ejected on hyperbolic orbits. The scattered disc might still be supplying the Oort cloud with material. A third of the scattered disc's population is likely to end up in the Oort cloud after 2.5 billion years.

What height and type of flights does the Katla volcano ash cloud affect?

I hear the ash cloud might reach easter Canada.

Pretending it does, what is the altitude "range" that the ashes affect?

Does it ground all flights? Or just high-altitude flights?

I have a flight schedule this week but it's only a low altitude regional 2 hour flight. What height and type of flights does the Katla volcano ash cloud affect?
It is not the Katla volcano but the Eyjafjallajokull one that has erupted. The former one is much bigger and while we fear it might also blow up, it hasn't done it yet.

The problem with this types of volcanoes that are under a glacier is that, when the blow up, they melt the glacier. This creates a column of steam that rises very high, up to the tropopause that is roughly 10 km of altitude, at that latitude. This is pretty much the same as a thunderstorm does.

Canada is not directly in danger because the main wind direction is south-westerly, along the low pressures moving with the jet streams. You are upstream of that system. Yet, air moves in many directions and since the ash can remains for weeks in the air, some may simply turn around the north pole and come back toward Canada, from west to east.

Your regional 2 hours flight will be at the same altitude as all of the others, 30,000 ft or around that. The reason airplanes go that high is that they are optimized to be most efficient at that altitude. It is a compromise between the energy needed to climb that high and the gain of having less drag from a thinner air.

The volcanic ash affects all the layers as some come down with the rain and in a high pressure region. The only safe place to fly would be on the top of everything if there is no ash at both the points of departure and arrival. As I understand it, some European airline companies are trying that at this very moment. Right now, we are talking about flying at 35,000 ft or Flight Level 350 as it is called in aviation.

PS: Eyjafjallajokull means, the glacier (jokull) of the mountain (fjalla) Eyja. Icelandic is nothing else than old Norwegian.

But if you want to play Galileo, the equations for motion under constant accelerations are:

    Vf = Vi + A T

    D = Vi T + (1/2) A T^2

    where:

Vi = initial velocity (in this case 0)

    Vf = final velocity

A = acceleration (in this case that of gravity ~9.8 m/s^2)

    T = time

    D = distance

You are given the initial velocity and the distance and you know the acceleration, so you can use the distance equation to compute the time.

With the time you can use the velocity equation to compute Vf.

What is the approximate mass of a cumulonimbus cloud 100 km^2 X 20 km high?

Just curious. Cumulonimbus clouds can precipitate prodigious quantities of rain and hail. Before precipitation begins what is the mass of the cloud? What percentage of its mass typically precipitates?

Another, related, question: what is the mass of a fair weather cumulus cloud 5 x 5 x 1 km?What is the approximate mass of a cumulonimbus cloud 100 km^2 X 20 km high?
Your answer is difficult to answer. First, to weight a cloud, you must remove it from the atmosphere. This is the only way you can "weight" the air. We can get an approximation by doing this: As the atmospheric pressure is roughly one kilo per square centimeter, you multiply that by the surface of your cloud and remove the part of the air that you don't need. That can't be done without a table because the pressure decrease with altitude but if you use ten kilometer, it would be a good average.

Ten kilometer is, actually about the top of the troposphere at the poles.

Once you get that, you may think: ah, but I have to add the weight of the water, right? Wrong. The specific gravity of a molecule of water is less than that of oxygen or nitrogen. But yes, there is a percentage of water in the air and that depends on the temperature. A cloud at 15 C will contain 13 grams of water per cubic meter. But at 0 C, it is down to 5 grams per cubic meter.

Now, cumulonimbus or fair weather cumulus; it's the same content in water. The only difference is that the former may result in precipitation due to its size. But how does it occur?

For precipitation to happen, the cloud must be further cooled down so that more condensation occurs and that is when the cloud is lifted either by warmer air or by orographic (a mountain) effect and it cools down by the adiabatic effect of a lesser pressure aloft. So, a cloud that produces precipitation, rain or snow, is a cloud that rises! It is only when the droplets or snowflakes get big enough that they overcome the rising by gravitation.

So, how much of the mass is lost by precipitation? That is easy to calculate once you know how much the cloud is rising. You can find the saturation absolute humidity (volume of water per volume of air) at a certain temperature. You also know that the average adiabatic lapse rate is 0.65 C per 100 meters and you can then calculate, e.g:

The cloud that rises 2,300 meters cools down by 23 * 0.65 = 15 degrees. The water content is then 5 / 13 * 100 = 38 percent of what it was. It doesn't mean that the cloud is "lighter" though! It means that it has lost some of its water content but the pressure is equalized by other molecules of air.

How is cloud computing related to information security?

I'm trying to understand more about technology, and from what I know so far, cloud computing is a "plum-pudding" model of information access. By that I mean there is a pool of computing giants (such as Microsoft and Google) that allow their users to have access to their services, but not know anything about how that information came to be. If this is wrong, please explain that in your answer too.

My question specifically asks that if so many different users can access the information that anyone else can access, how is security even possible? How is cloud computing related to information security?

What is going to happen to the cloud that is hovering over Europe?

I mean. When the volcano stops making the dust.Where will this dust go?

Will it just circle the planet to infinity?

Or is it gonna go into space?

    Or simply disappear?

And when will it stop erupting and how long will it take for the cloud to clear?

Will it clear before summer? What is going to happen to the cloud that is hovering over Europe?
Even the experts don't know when it will stop erupting. Some volcanoes erupt a little every few years. The ones that give a big blast like this one settle down, after a few days or weeks. Most of the damage is done in the first day or so, when the earth (and this case, also the ice) that was above the volcano gets blasted up into space by the force of the first eruption.

Close by, in Iceland, where the ash has fallen many inches deep, crops will die from being covered, and animals that try to eat them may get sick. Further away, the cloud will circle the earth many times, thinning and getting lower each time. Ash fall will not much affect crops, but the dust cover can stop enough sunlight getting through, so some crops might take longer to ripen.

For many months, there will be brilliant red sunsets as the particles catch on the dust; this effect will slowly circle the globe.

The immediate danger to aircraft will clear in a few days. The ash will thin out and fall to earth (and into the oceans) slowly over the next year. The effect on sunlight won't make it dark anywhere, just reduce the amount of ultraviolet light that comes though.
It will last as long as it lasts. It will not begin to really dissipate until the volcano in Iceland 'settles down.'

It likely will not cause 'global cooling' or ruin any crops leading in turn to starvation. Mt. St. Helens in the state of Washington (U.S.A.) killed a bunch of trees and fish and a few people, but its main effect was to turn day into night in some parts of the Northwest, mostly downwind of the mountain. Also, Mt. Pinatubo in the Phillipines did not cause any widespread crop damage or global cooling.

The main concern right now is keeping airplanes out of the ash cloud, as the ash is very abrasive and could damage the engines, or even clog the engines causing the planes to crash.

If you are in the shadow of the volcano and need to clean the ash off of your personal property, use a stream of water, as brushing the ash off of surfaces will cause etching of the finish. (Auto body shops in Eastern Oregon, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado were heavily booked with people wanting their cars repainted after Mt. St. Helens blew itself up on May 18, 1980 because those people brushed the ash off their cars, only to discover that it scratched the paint job.)What is going to happen to the cloud that is hovering over Europe?
yesterday i heard in tv programme that it is possible that after this volcano eruption there will be ahother hard eruption from ahother vulcano near to this one.

the dust would fall down to earth if the volcano stops right now, but it is not clear to happen
The ashes(dust) will mix with clouds and fall as acid rains on the earth.(all over the world)

It may or not clear before summer but the sure thing is the summer will be cooler especially around europe this year. What is going to happen to the cloud that is hovering over Europe?
no it will start to fall (ash) although most of it will disintegrate when the ash falls it makes a spetaular sunset.

If you have a big enough thank you could add just about anything. I would recomend cory catfish, only because they are super active, and they like cooler water. My personal favorite fish to(: They get about 2" big, but they need a ten gallon AT LEAST if you have a ten gallon, you could probably add about four, anything less, then look into guppies. What fish is most compatible with white cloud mountain minnows?
one fish that has the same water conditions as wcmm is a hillstream loach. They requite quite fast flowing water so you will need some powerheads but both fish come from similar areas of china. Make sure you do lots of research before buying them as they can be quite delicate. Danios will also be fine with them.

EDIT: people wcmm are cool to cold water fish. They do not do well above 22c so that limits the choices.

An example of a dust devil

    (Copyright: John Roenfeldt-Inflow Images)

    What is a Dust Devil?

A common wind phenomenon that occurs throughout much of the world, including Arizona, are dust devils . An example of a dust devil can be seen to the left. These dust-filled vortices, created by strong surface heating, are generally smaller and less intense than a tornado. Typical diameters of dust devils range from 10 to 300 feet, with an average height of approximately 500 to 1000 feet. Dust devils typically last only a few minutes before dissipating, however they sometimes for tens of minutes, under optimal conditions. Over the deserts or other locations with very dry soil, dust devils can reach heights of several thousand feet and last on the order of an hour or more. Wind speeds in larger dust devils can reach 60 mph or greater. Even though they are generally smaller than tornadoes, dust devils can still be destructive as they lift dust and other debris into the air. Small structures can be damaged, and even destroyed, if in the path of a strong dust devil.
"A tornado is defined as a violently rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground."

If there is no cloud it isn't a tornado.

Good question. They may be "gustnadoes" associated with strong gust fronts or they may be "dust devils" associated with strong differential surface heating.

Why do car headlights cloud up over time?

Stuff builds up on the outside of the lens and makes your headlights useless.

They turn cloudy white and yellow. What makes this happen?

Is there a way to prevent this? Why do car headlights cloud up over time?
    Naturally occurring oxidation.

It forms on the external surface of the lens.

Use an acrylic lens restorer to remove the oxidation from the lens.

Pittman's Original One Step ALR is pure liquid safe and it works on contact.

    Perfect for ladies.

You can clean a lens in about 60 seconds.
it is the build up of chemicals/pollution in the air - the condition starts to deteriorate over time, and is artificially accelerated by our weather conditions and the speed at which the air flows over the car.

Most car companies provide headlamp protectors that hook on under the bonnet to preserve the actual headlights underneath. Most dealerships do them for about 拢25, and when they start to cloud over, simply replace them.

Also effective in preventing broken lights in the event of a bump. Why do car headlights cloud up over time?
this happens because of the elements in nature, rain, sun ect. and the gunk from the road. not sure if there is a way to completely prevent but you could try cleaning them every 3-4 days with something like Thunderblaster from Dollar General or Windex. Personally I use the Thunderblaster it works better.
from moisture build up in the lens it because the seal on the build socket is worn out and needs to be replace you can buy an anti fog solution to put on the inside of the lens to prevent this from happeningWhy do car headlights cloud up over time?
Plastic headlamp glass units have special bulbs. They are called Low UV bulbs and they are designed to stop the lens from clouding.

Most mechanics do not know about these bulbs and fit normal bulbs when replacing blown ones.

This will not solve your problem if the lights are already cloudy - Sorry.

I really like sugarsync.com since everything is backed-up online automatically (5 GB free). You just select what folder you want to back up and it updates and syncs (online and between different computers). They also let you stream mp3 and view photos online. It is cheaper than dropbox.com. It's easy to securely share files too.

If your just looking for pure volume of storage at a cheap price then go with symform.com. Just curious, I often wonder how far away a cloud is, if it is far away and seems close or is close but seems far away, if that makes sense. Thanks. What is the furthest distance you can see a cloud from any point?
Well your question brings into account the fact that the earth is round. Some high clouds can be over 3 miles up off the ground.

At sea level the horizon is approx 5-6 miles away (assuming a clear day),

Clouds rise off the horizon by 3 miles up so, You can see them from real freaking far. A cloud that is 3 miles up off the ground, just breaking the horizon and coming into view, I would ESTIMATE that it is over 20 miles away.

What happens when a funnel cloud touches a vast water body?

I have this homework and I'm supposed to describe what happens when a funnel cloud touches a water body like an ocean. What problems/disasters can that cause? Plus if one's below a funnel cloud, is it dangerous and how so? And what are the sounds it makes? What happens when a funnel cloud touches a vast water body?
Wait just to make sure a funnel cloud is a tornado right?? But if that were to happen it would cause a waterspout. What happens when a funnel cloud touches a vast water body?
    Most funnel clouds make tornadoes.

I'm pretty sure from learning in school, it just begins to pick up water (if it reaches the surface of the water)and rain it down around\away from the tunnel. Picking up the water makes it more difficult for the funnel to function, it also changes the air properties of the system, basically choking it and ending it's existence sooner than it would on land.

So it restricts it, and it messes with the air properties witch are the forces for it's workings.

If it dose not come in contact with the surface than the temperature difference (water is colder) will change the air properties a that it is working with and will wear it out/cut it short.

May be a sort of crude answer but should be on the money.

Being underneath or inside a funnel cloud can be very dangerous depending on it's actual state of maturity. There is an extreme negative pressure difference mixed with very high winds. When the funnel cloud is in contact/action with the ground (tornado) there can also be lighting discharges inside.

It would sound like very high winds, some refer to the noise as a freight train. The closer it is the louder it is.

Is the cloud ceiling lower in the east than on the west coast?

I notice the sky looks closer while on the East Coast, USA (New York- the Carolinas) vs when I am on the west coast (California). Is there a reason for this? Is the cloud ceiling lower on the east coast than on the west coast. I understand the stupidity of saying the "sky" looks closer. I hope some of you know what I am referring to.Is the cloud ceiling lower in the east than on the west coast?
I don't think there should be a difference. The ceiling of the clouds vary a lot depending on the actual weather conditions. For example, as a warm front moves in, the ceiling will go down from the very top of the troposphere, to a low ceiling as milder air rises on the very slack sloop of the front. Somewhere else, in a high pressure, inversion may occur and as fog forms in the morning, it rises when the sun heats the ground, forming stratus clouds that will slowly rise. Elsewhere, a convection may rise cumulus clouds to form cumulonimbus, perhaps with isolated thunderstorms by the end of the day. As the air gets warmer and warmer near the ground, during the day, the ceiling will rise more and more.

I am very much aware of that because I fly a very light aircraft, only visual. It means that I cannot fly in the clouds (I don't have the instruments to do that) and the ceiling is what stops me to fly higher. Sometimes I may start early in the morning, here in Norway, flying toward the mountains, only to land on a small airfield, to wait that the ceiling rises up later on, in order to fly over the mountain range.

Basically, it works like this: At altitude, the temperature remains pretty much the same. But near the ground, it gets colder during the night and warmer during the day since heat radiates back into space, at night, and is gained during a sunny day by storing into the ground.

The average adiabatic lapse rate (how fast it cools down with altitude) on earth is 0.65 C per 100 meters (roughly 3 F per 1,000 ft). But when the sun heats the ground during the day, the difference is greater and it takes a longer time to rise to see clouds cooling down to reach what is called the dew point temperature. When it does it, the base of the cumulus clouds is formed.

It is possible that at a certain place near New York and a certain place in California, the local conditions such as a cold sea current, a sea breeze effect or an orographic effect of the Californian mountains, cause a lower or higher than usual cloud ceiling. But if it does, it will be only under special conditions and wind direction.

This is, for example, the case for the Lofoten islands of Norway. When the wind blows from the west, the mild and moist air from the Gulf Stream meets the polar air above and creates a very low ceiling that hides the top of the fjords. But if the wind blows from the east, then the visibility is very good and the ceiling, very high.Is the cloud ceiling lower in the east than on the west coast?
The Western US has lower humidity on average, hence higher/fewer clouds than in the east. Obviously this depends on local conditions/topography, but the colder and drier the air is, the less likely you'll see as many low-hanging clouds.

What's the difference between cloud computing and hosting on a online web server?

Could somebody please explain to me what cloud computing is in laymen's terms? What's the difference between cloud computing and hosting on a online web server?
To put it simple, Dedicated servers have limited resources. There is a limit on the number of processors or hard drives that you can put into a dedicated server. You cannot run 100k websites from one dedicated server.

But you can do that with a cloud hosting, as you can add the same server hardware to a cloud, and the power of the cloud will just go on increasing. The resources of all the servers and computers in the cloud are shared, and therefore, a reseller hosting company can virtually host billions and billions of sites in what would look like just 1 server, but which actually is a cloud of several hundreds of servers.

Cloud hosting in a very large scale is highly profitable since management costs would come down, however, the hardware costs would just remain the same. What's the difference between cloud computing and hosting on a online web server?
First, the easy one... hosting on a web server is when you upload files to a server so they can be downloaded again by you, or by other people you give permission to.

With cloud computing, you're using applications (like email, word processing, spreadsheet, photo editing) that are located on a remote server somewhere, but using them as if they were programs on your computer. Google Apps (Google Documents, etc.) would be a good example of that. The program lives on a remote server, but you're using it on your computer inside a web browser, and usually saving your files to the remote server so they can be accessed from any computer you use.

So part of cloud computing involves uploading files to a web server, but it has more to do with the fact that you're using a program that lives on that server to help you create the files to begin with.

Does that clear things up?What's the difference between cloud computing and hosting on a online web server?
In practical terms, there is no difference. Cloud computing is just a buzzword that means a lot of different things depending on what company is selling something. In general terms the term "cloud" means "don't worry about how, it just happens and it just works".

Cloud computing, to me, is simply the provision of technology-based resources (processor power, storage, networking) on demand, just like the power company provides you with electricity to the plugs in your house.

If you want to read a bit more about it check out the Wikipedia entry at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_compu鈥?/a>

For an example of a currently available, real-world and seemingly successful cloud computing service, check out the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) at http://aws.amazon.com/s3/ . Other examples include Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, and the Google search engine. They all run "in the cloud". They don't run on YOUR PC, right? ;-)

If you REALLY want to read more about it go to the library and get a copy of "The Big Switch" by Nicholas Carr. I'm just starting to read it and it's very interesting, not "techie" boring stuff, but "big-picture, history-making-and-changing innovation" kind of stuff.

How long does the radioactive cloud/Nuclear fallout take to be cleared in a land or water surface?

How long/how much time does the radioactive cloud/Nuclear fallout take to be cleared in a land or water surface?

How long does it take for the contaminated area to be decontaminted?

What're the methods applied in Cleaning radioactive clould/Nuclear fallout?

Hearsay that The radioactive fog from seawater is a notable exception, being very difficult to wash off, is this true?

Your comments and advise please... Thank you.How long does the radioactive cloud/Nuclear fallout take to be cleared in a land or water surface?
the bikini atoll area was the site of about twenty two very large nuclear tests in the 50,s and early 60,s. it was heavily contaminated. only the slight presence of cesium radiation in the soil of the islands now prevents them from being inhabited. the sea is fully recovered, as is the land. it is an almost uninhabited paradise. chernobyl is now a tourist destination. three mile island power plant in new jersey is making electricity from nuc power as we speak.

  • How do you read the cloud information on a QFA bulletin?

I know the abbreviations eg. CU=cumulus etc., but after the the type of cloud comes the scale eg. 1-3 (CU 1-3). What is the scale? One to ten (1-10)?

Thanks for any info, It'll be greatly appreciated! How do you read the cloud information on a QFA bulletin?
It has been a while since I've learned tower controller wx reports, but I'll take a stab (and I've never heard of them as QFA's, but I'm fairly sure I know what you are talking about and the QFA thing is something I was never taught or is a difference in our countries). it divides to 0-8. 8 sections of sky. 0 is clear. 1-2 is few clouds, 3-4 skattered, 5-7 is broken and 8 is overcast. How do you read the cloud information on a QFA bulletin?
its a scale of densityHow do you read the cloud information on a QFA bulletin?
As Kevin said, the sky is divided in 8 parts (called 'oktas'). clear blue sky without a cloud in sight - 0 out of 8 so given as SKC (sky clear). 1-2 eights of the sky containing cloud - 1-2 out of 8 expressed as FEW (...few). 3-4 eights of sky with could - 3-4 out of 8 written as SCT (scattered). 5-7 eights of sky covered expressed as BKN (broken). and 8 out of 8 is OVC (overcast).

What are some useful ways to use cloud storage?

Recently signed up for Amazon CloudDrive and was wondering what are some unique ways the cloud is used. I've stored docs, pics, and music on it. But, are there utilities or other handy uses for cloud storage I'm not thinking of?What are some useful ways to use cloud storage?
As long as ISP's cap the upload speed, charge for data usage, cloud services continue to undergo security/privacy breeches, and you can't get the Internet everywhere for a reasonable price, it just makes more sense to keep the files on your person where you can control it.

What prevents the pressure from increasing as a cloud contracts due to its gravity?

    A) Excess pressure is released in jets of material from the young stars.

    B) As the cloud becomes denser, gravity becomes stronger and overcomes the pressure buildup.

    C) Once the cloud reaches a critical density, the pressure becomes degenerate and independent of temperature.

    D) The pressure is transferred from the center of the cloud to its outer edges where it can dissipate.

    E) Thermal energy is converted to radiative energy via molecular collisions and released as photons. What prevents the pressure from increasing as a cloud contracts due to its gravity?
    B) is the only answers which is correct, the other answers seem to go against elementary physics laws. What prevents the pressure from increasing as a cloud contracts due to its gravity?
Just a note. Doing an online homework assignment and B was not right. The answer was E, Thermal Energy is converted to radiative energy via molecular collisions and released as photons. Also this answer does make sense, it's essentially saying as pressure increases nuclear fusion happens.
