Are white cloud mountain minnows cold water fish and can they live in a small tank ?

I called up the pet lady and asked her if the have a small fishtank and then she said yes I said ok and then she said what type of fish are u keeping and I said white clouds then she said no they need a big tank whith a heater is this true ?Are white cloud mountain minnows cold water fish and can they live in a small tank ?
They are considered cold water.. they can't survive quite down to freezing, but can handle close to it for a while. They do just fine at room temperature, and even up into the low end tropical range. As long as you don't live in an igloo, they wont need a heater.

They have an adult size of a little over 1", so they are OK in a smallish tank. 10gal is ideal, and I have kept (AND bred) them in a 5gal. I have some in a 20gal now, hopefully they will breed because it's looking a bit empty right now.

She may be confusing them for some other fish, as White Clouds are quite unusual in being cold-water AND small.

No, they don't need a heater. They are happy in water at about 68F (that's their ideal) and you can use a heater to achieve that if you like, but in most places you shouldn't need to.

They don't need a large tank, but should have a ten gallon tank with a filter to house a school of six. This is both the minimum tank size and school size.

If you've got that, you are set. If not, think about upgrading. :)Are white cloud mountain minnows cold water fish and can they live in a small tank ?
They are not cold-water fish, but they do best at temperatures a little lower than most tropical fish tanks. Around 65 to 70 F is good for them. They would not need a heater in the average house, provided the house has heat.

I don't know what you consider "small," but I don't recommend keeping white cloud mountain minnows in a tank smaller than 10 gallons.
Yes, they are 'cool' water (not cold, implying down to freezing).. I have mine at about 65-70, in the unheated part of my basement. Even though they aren't near a window, they seem to know when it's spring to early summer as that's when they begin spawning.

I have Java moss across most of the bottom, and when I begin to see the mating 'dance' they do, I set up my infusoria cultures and being feeding the fry with it as they appear free swimming.

I don't take the eggs or fry out of the tank.. If they are fed they survive, and the adults are fed well so they don't eat the fry. By winter, I need to get rid of a lot of them of the tank would get too crowded.

So, Yes, they can be kept at room temperature, and they can live in a 'small' tank. I have most breeding in a 30 gal, but 10 would be fine. You could keep some in a 5gal tank, but be careful you don't over feed..

You can keep about 5-8 in a 5 gal, or 15-20 in a 10 gal tank. But if you're a beginner, cut that in half to be on the safe sideAre white cloud mountain minnows cold water fish and can they live in a small tank ?
Well, they ARE cold water water fish..White clouds are VERY active and you would need 15 gallons to keep them happy. They do not need a HUGE tank.If you have a 15+ gallon tank you're ok! Now they DO NOT need a heater because they are cold water not tropical.

Good luck!
Actually yes, they are cold water fish. And I would say a ten gallon would be sufficient for up to 5-6 white clouds.
I got some a few weeks ago and they are doing fine in my tropical tank. but I don't keep it super warm. They seem a LOT more active than I thought they would be. They zip around my 45 and peck each other. I didn't think they were that aggressive, either.
No.
