Calculate the orbital period of a comet with a perihelion distance of 0.6 AU and aphelion in the Oort cloud?

Calculate the orbital period of a comet with a perihelion distance of 0.6 AU and aphelion in the Oort cloud, at a distance of 9.5脳10^4 AU from the Sun.

A short-period comet has a perihelion distance of 1 AU and an orbital period of 216 years. What is its maximum distance from the Sun?Calculate the orbital period of a comet with a perihelion distance of 0.6 AU and aphelion in the Oort cloud?
both questions on kepler's third law. are you stupid or something?Calculate the orbital period of a comet with a perihelion distance of 0.6 AU and aphelion in the Oort cloud?
The extent of Oort cloud is humongous, compared to planetary distances. It extends from 2000 to 20000 AU.

1. Perihelion = a(1 -e),

Aphelion = a(1+e) .

a = [Aphelion+Perihelion] / 2 ,

e = [Aphelion -Perihelion] / [Aphelion+Perihelion].

Equating the Aphelion distances to Oort cloud's two limits (proximal%26amp;distal) gives two sets of (a, e). You might as well try these.

Kepler's third law says

P虏 = a鲁

=%26gt; P = a (鈭歛).

Try both the values of ' a ' above that gives a value of ' P ' each.

2. P = 216 years

a鲁 = P虏 = 216 X 216 = 36鲁

a = 36 AU

= Perihelion / (1 -e) = 1/(1 -e)

(1 -e) = 1/36

=%26gt; e = 35/36.

Aphelion (maximum distance from the Sun)

= a(1+e)

= 36 (1+[35/36])

= 36 X 71 /36 = 71 AU
